Mercedes cars are generally very reliable but on occasion the head unit can fail. The symptoms vary but usually the outcome is that the unit appears completely dead. This is also confirmed in the instrument cluster when selecting Audio, Media or Nav it shows just a series of dashes. This is basically confirming that the head unit is not communicating with the car. When this occurs we are no longer able to communicate with the head unit using our diagnostics so the unit itself is irreparable.
We can replace this with a refurbished unit that will be installed, security coded, loaded with the latest firmware and also loaded with the latest maps available too. Maps are loaded onto the hard drive of the Comand unit, and on Audio 20 we will include a new SD card with the latest maps.
Our warranty will cover this unit for two years for complete peace of mind.
There are two types of head unit in these cars which are:
Audio 20. This is generally accompanied by a standard audio system with Black Speaker grilles. It uses an SD card in the centre armrest for its navigation database.
Comand NTG5.2. This is generally accompanied by a Burmester Audio system with Silver Speaker grilles. Navigation is run from an internal HDD.
